Lake Shawnee Ghosts

People describe hearing disembodied voices—sometimes whispers, sometimes sharp cries that echo from empty rooms. Sudden temperature drops are common, as if someone unseen has stepped into the space beside you. Objects have been reported shifting or falling without explanation, and more than a few visitors have felt the unmistakable sensation of being watched.

Lake Shawnee Amusement Park, located in Rock, West Virginia, is renowned for its haunted history. The park, which opened in 1926, was once a popular summer destination with attractions like a Ferris wheel and swings. However, tragedy struck in 1927 when a young girl was struck by a truck while playing on the swings, and in 1930, a boy drowned in the swimming pool. These incidents, along with the park's past as a Native American burial ground, have contributed to its status as one of the most haunted places in America.

The Brunswick Heritage Museum is steeped in ghostly tales and paranormal activity. Visitors and staff have reported encounters with a woman in a white dress, a ghostly curator, and a spook that likes to tamper with model trains. These stories are part of the museum's rich history, which includes its past as the Redman's Lodge and the Fraternal Order of Eagles. The museum's haunted atmosphere and the stories surrounding it make it a unique destination for those interested in the paranormal and history.

Places where torment took place on a regular basis become hotbeds for paranormal activity, and Virginia’s St. Albans Sanatorium proves no exception. From electroshock therapy to lobotomies, the treatment for the mentally ill at St. Albans caused tremendous suffering for its patients. Therefore, it comes as no surprise that St. Albans ranks as one of the 25 most haunted places in Virginia.

Reports from the orphanage often center around the basement, where the harshest punishments were said to occur. Investigators describe hearing soft crying, whispers, and the unmistakable sound of small footsteps moving across the floor when no one is present. Some have captured EVPs that resemble children calling out for help or murmuring in hushed, frightened tones.

Shadow figures are frequently reported—small, quick shapes darting around corners or peeking from doorways. Others have felt tugs on their clothing, as if a child is trying to get their attention. Sudden cold spots are common, especially near the stairwell leading to the lower levels.
